Lamahatta Eco Park sits right on the Darjeeling–Kalimpong road, about 23 km from Darjeeling town, wrapped in tall dhupi pine forest and strings of fluttering prayer flags. Developed as an eco-tourism destination in 2012, it has become one of the most photographed stops in the Darjeeling hills — terraced flower gardens climbing the hillside, benches under the pines, and views that stretch across the Teesta valley to the snow line of Kanchenjunga on clear mornings.

What to see and do
The heart of the park is its terraced garden — landscaped beds of seasonal flowers, orchids and ornamental plants stepping down the hillside, framed by pines that seem to touch the clouds. Walk slowly: the higher terraces open up wider and wider views of the Teesta river snaking through the valley far below.
Don't skip the walk to the sacred ponds — a gentle uphill forest trail of about 1–1.5 km from the park takes you to two natural ponds considered holy by the local community. The trail through moss-draped pine forest is arguably the best part of the visit, quiet except for birdsong.
Along the roadside, small stalls run by local families sell tea, momos and simple meals. Sunrise and late afternoon bring the best light for photographs, and weekday mornings are the quietest.
When to visit
October to December offers the most reliable Kanchenjunga views and crisp mountain air. Spring (March–May) brings the gardens to full bloom. The monsoon months (June–September) are lush and misty — beautiful in their own way, but mountain views are rare.
Where to stay near Lamahatta Eco Park
If you want to experience Lamahatta beyond a quick photo stop, stay the night. Kepchaki Stay is a family-run homestay in Rana Village, Lamahatta — about 20 minutes by car from the Eco Park, or a 30–40 minute hike through village paths if you'd rather walk it, which many guests prefer. Rooms have Kanchenjunga views, all three organic home-cooked meals are included, and the sightseeing cab covers the Eco Park, Tinchuley and Takdah.
And if the walk appeals more than the destination: ask the family about the hidden tea-garden meadow nearby — a grassy picnic spot among the tea bushes with a mountain view, known to locals and absent from Google Maps. Someone from the house will walk you there.
