One of the best reasons to stay in Lamahatta instead of Darjeeling town is what surrounds it. Tinchuley sunrise point

A ridge-top village at around 5,800 ft famous for its sunrise view — on a clear morning the whole Kanchenjunga range turns gold while the Teesta and Rangeet valleys fill with cloud below. Combine it with the Tinchuley monastery and the orange orchards in season.
Takdah

An old British cantonment wrapped in orchids, heritage bungalows and cool deodar forest. Visit the Takdah Orchid Centre, walk the quiet cantonment lanes, and stop at the century-old bungalows that now serve as heritage stays and tea rooms.
Peshok Tea Garden

Rolling tea estates spilling down towards the Teesta, with some of the most dramatic valley views in the district. The Peshok road itself is the attraction — every bend opens a new photograph. Nearby, the Lovers' Meet viewpoint overlooks the confluence of the Teesta and Rangeet rivers.

Darjeeling town

The classic circuit: catch the toy train (Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage site), walk Mall Road and Chowrasta, visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and the zoo, and if you're up early — Tiger Hill for the famous sunrise over Kanchenjunga, with the Batasia Loop on the way back.
Mirik
~2.5 hours from the homestay
A gentle lake town built around Sumendu Lake — paddle boats, a pine-lined promenade, and cardamom and orange gardens on the drive. Best as a full-day trip combined with the Gopaldhara and Thurbo tea estates of the Mirik valley.

Staying at a quiet homestay near Takdah and Lamahatta means you're 20–30 minutes from every spot above, but you sleep far from the traffic and crowds of town.
